This trip was a bit different. We booked this trip during the COVID pandemic so we were looking for something specific and what we found was an absolute gem. We still only had one child and at this point, he was about a little over 3 years old. Like our first trip to the Dominican Republic, living in South Florida, this was an easy (and short) flight. Leo did great on the flight!LFT Tip: Plan the flights to align with a baby’s feeding schedule to help with ear pressure adjustment (sugar-free lollipops work great too for older kids). Overall this vacation was relaxing, incredible and a good respite (mostly secluded and outdoors) during the pandemic. However, you don’t need to be living in the middle of a pandemic for this trip to be worth it. This time, we didn’t forget the essential items that made our trip a little easier; namely, our baby carrier and a pool floatie for him.
GETTING THERE
Flight: We booked our flight which was non-stop out of Miami International Airport [MIA] and landed in Cancun. From Miami, this is a short flight (~1.5 Hours). LFT Tip: bring the baby carrier on the plane so you’re hands-free while traveling if you travel with a lap infant. Also make sure that you take advantage of the pre-boarding for families with littles and gate check your stroller.
Transport to the hotel: Transport to and from the hotel was included with our stay. This was a nice added bonus. They had a carseat, which again saved us from the need to bring our own, since we were not going anywhere outside the resort (other than back to the airport when it was time to leave).
Where we stayed
Finest for Families Playa Mujeres; Junior Suite With Private Pool
Pros – All-inclusive made it easy to relax without worrying about anything. There was a buffet with a large variety of food options available for all the meals and also many restaurants open for lunch and dinner. There was also an ice cream parlor, coffee bar and fresh juice bar. Room service was also included in the stay. In addition to the food, many activities were included with our stay: sailing, gym classes, art activities, beach, and pool to name a few. There is also a spa on the property. Room service was also included which made it easy to have lunch and use the private pool without seeing others (we enjoyed it while Leo napped). The resort also featured an entire kids club, including its own water park/splashpad area!
Cons – No reservations available for dinner with long waits at the restaurants. The buffet is always open as an option, though. The adult activities have a person limit; just need to get to them a little early/on time to ensure you get to experience them.
WHAT WE DID
We stayed on the resort property while there. We soaked up the sun and spent the days by the pool and beach. As our L1 was older at this point, we were able to use more of the amenities that the resort had to offer. Included with our stay was a children’s water park and kids club. We spent most of the morning splashing around in this area and getting some shade while doing arts and crafts in the kids club. We got to bring home a hand puppet, customized shirts and bracelets. We spent the evenings going to the onsite shows (they had both kids shows earlier and family-friendly shows later in the evening) and dinner and enjoyed the private pool while the baby slept.
As this was an all-inclusive resort and we only stayed on the resort property, our itinerary was dependent on the schedule of activities we were interested in doing on any given day, based on the offerings that the resort had.
