Paris – Amsterdam – Brussels

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM PARIS – AMSTERDAM – BRUSSELS?

This was a trip two years in the making. While watching an episode of Peppa Pig, Leo saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time since then he has wanted to go and see it in person weren’t able to go right away due to the situation with the pandemic, however once we felt safe enough to travel to more populated places, we went ahead and took off. We went in April where the weather was very pleasant and not yet scorching hot– and we had one more addition – Luca.

  • Duration: 12 days
  • Season: Spring

GETTING THERE

Day 1: We flew directly from MIA nonstop to Charles DeGaul (CDG) airport in Paris. This was a great option for us as the flight left late at night and the kids were tired, so they slept most of the flight. LFT Tip: In order to bring down the cost of our trips, we try to use reward points from credit cards as best we can. You can apply here, if you’re interested too! Once we arrived in Paris, we rented a car to get to all of our main destinations and public transit to move around in the city proper.

Where we stayed

  • Brussels: Novotel Brussels City Centre
  • Amsterdam: Amsterdam Marriott Hotel
  • Paris: Novotel Les Halles

WHAT WE DID

  • Day 1: Travel to Copenhagen
  • Day 2: Upon obtaining the car, we drove straight to Brussels (after a quick stop at a local grocery). LFT Tip: At the local grocery store we picked up some diapers (we saved a ton of space in our luggage by not bringing all the diapers we’d need with us from home), baby food, snacks, and bottled water to have for the drive and the room.  We arrived at our hotel late afternoon and after checking in, ordered in a pizza and ate in the room.
  • Day 3: we explored Brussels, Belgium. Specifically, we walked around the city center and went to look at the Manneken Pis, the Jenneken Pis (the boy’s less famous girl counterpart) ate some of the most amazing nutella waffles and then had mussels and frites for lunch. Once done with lunch, we made our way back to the hotel to grab our car and head to Mini Europe: a scale-sized exhibition park of interactive famous European landmarks. The littles loved seeing the models and pushing all the buttons that made them move. Once we were done at the park, we made our way to Amsterdam (about a 2 hour drive) and arrived at our hotel just before dinner time.  We had a nice dinner (with the kids, italian of course!) and then got ready to have a long day sightseeing the next day.
  • Day 4: we woke up and went to explore the city using their public transportation system. We went to the zoo, saw Dam square, the flower market, ate some stroop waffles and even went on a boat tour around the city that included – a pizza party of course!
  • Day 5 was reserved to go explore the blooming tulips at Keukenhof. The tulip gardens did not disappoint! They were breathtakingly beautiful and the kids had a blast! Honestly, it was kid-friendlier than I originally thought. The grounds were not just a farm with rows of tulips (though they had plenty of that) but also had live music, fun photo opportunities, a petting zoo, a playground and a windmill you could go into!
  • Day 6: Leo and I woke up early and headed to the NEMO science center (about 3 hours). We hopped onto the bus to get there after grabbing a quick breakfast. This multi-floor interactive children’s science museum was a blast! While we did this, Vlad took the opportunity to rest with Luca, check out, and picked us up in the car so we could make our way back to Paris (about a 5 hour drive) and return the car. By the time we got to our hotel in Paris, it was dinner time.
  • On Day 7 we discovered Disneyland Paris! It was a straight shot via train from our hotel. The convenience of our hotel was that the train and major underground station was literally right outside its entrance making it a breeze to get around the city.
  • On day 8, we were finally able to explore Paris proper. So of course, the first thing we did was head off to the Eiffel Tower, where we had pre-booked a tour. The guide was really friendly and gave us a lot of information about the tower itself while we waited in line to take the elevator all the way to the top. Once we missed the pinnacle, we were able to get some beautiful photos with a really nice view of Paris.  Once we were done sightseeing from the top of the tower, we made our way down and headed over to the sun where we had a boat ride lunch waiting for us. The boat ride took approximately two hours and included a traditional French meal while we rode down the river, and took in the sites. From here, among others, we were able to see Notre Dame and the Statue of Liberty’s smaller sister. After the boat ride, we went to the subway and took a quick ride to make our way towards Champs Elysse and the Arc d’Triumph. Here we walked around, did some shopping and ate some macaroons at Lauderee.
  • On day 9:  We woke up early in the morning. I made our way to Montemartre.  The kids enjoyed taking the Funicular up to the top of the lookout point at the steps of Sacre Cour after also enjoying the beautiful carousel at the bottom of the hill. Rather than taking the funicular back down, we made our way down on foot and headed over to see the famous theater, the Moulin Rouge. We didn’t have tickets to go inside, there was a playground close by that the kids enjoyed and we people watched. When the time got closer to the time for lunch, we headed over to the famous pink mamma restaurant for some delicious homemade pasta and pizza. After lunch, we made our way over to the famous French department store Galleries Lafayette, and then walked around Place Vendome for some shopping.
  • Day 10: We headed back over to Disney and went to Walt Disney’s studio, the other park available. We spent the whole day there until night time, and then took the train back into the city where we went again to see the Eiffel Tower. But this time we saw it light up and sparkle.
  • Day 11: On our last full day in Paris, we visited the Louvre (LFT Tip: purchase the tickets ahead of time to avoid long waiting lines). In there we explored the Mona Lisa, the sphinx in the basement and a few other masterpieces. After that, we walked around the area and then made our way back to the Eiffel Tower one last time to see it and ride the carousel nearby.
  • Day 12: We headed to the airport in the morning and made our way home.
